Lawyers Heads Aren’t Up in the Cloud, but Their Law firm Should be

Computer Systems Plus is gearing up for the 2022 KBA Law Practice Today Expo. Basically, a bunch of attorneys, judges, legal administrators that live in East Tennessee are all coming to Knoxville to learn how to better utilize technology and management best practices in the modern law office. We obviously don’t know everything that they are going to cover. However, we are going to be there for one simple purpose: to talk about Clio.

If you haven’t heard about Clio, they are changing the way law offices manage their firms. The main component? The Cloud. And guess what, most law firms are moving in that direction. Clio recently put out a whole article explaining in depth why lawyers are moving in that direction. We wanted to highlight five of those reasons, but if you want to read the whole thing, we will have a link below.

1. Everyone is doing it

When we were kids this is the last thing mom wanted to hear. But when it comes to legal practice management technology, it’s a different story. Most likely the best thing to happen for law businesses, this innovative way to practice law is well advanced beyond our years. Seamless remote access, the ability to save more time in a workweek, better security, and 99.9% uptime guarantees. Moving to the cloud is a great idea, in more ways than what we’ve even listed. Get on that bandwagon and get up in the cloud.

2. You can work from ANYWHERE

That’s right, ANYWHERE. Although this is nothing new. Working in the cloud gives attorneys and other firm staff access to the most up-to-date information from wherever they need it. This means as a lawyer, you do not need any special remote login credentials to access firm data. Lawyers also do not need to worry about calling their secretary or someone in their office to scan and email important files for them while they are out of the office. Once someone is connected to a secure Wi-Fi spot, they can log in and access every single detail of a case. Plus with Clio, there is a mobile app as well. With the convenience of being able to access case work from any location, anywhere in the world, any lawyer would be set up for success!

3. Centralized Billing

No one really loves to talk about money, but with Clio, the financial aspect makes working with clients so much easier. Plus it saves time! With time tracking, creating bills, reviewing all the fine details, and easy delivery and payment reconciliation it’s an accountant’s dream! There are also options once you are out in the field for writing detailed notes and the descriptions of the work performed, which can be included in the client’s bill! All these options simplify the billing process and ultimately make it easier for everyone. What’s not to love about that!

4. The Issues with being on site

We understand that sometimes going old school and having internal severs are a nice thing to have. Information stored in the office feels safe and secure, but there are actually a ton of problems with this. For one, the cost and space requirements. You have to have a designated room for a server, plus the huge investment of the installation and maintaining the system. Then you have to think about the security and confidentiality of all the data. Running software from in-house servers requires a person to come in and install everything because it’s probably not the best idea to do it yourself. On top of all of that, the performance and security aspects can be a challenge as well. Legacy legal software is built on outmoded technology, making it slower for users. And last, but certainly, not least, when you can only access information on sight this limits a lawyer’s ability to do their job to the fullest extent.

5. Legal-specific software in the cloud

When you think of all the programs in the tech world you have to admit that there are specific programs geared toward every industry. So why wouldn’t you want legal-specific software? With all the rules and regulations that lawyers have to have in order to safeguard their client’s information, it’s important to have software geared directly toward them. There are a ton of reasons why Clio is the best legal software to use. Benefits include increased access to information, better collaboration, streamlined workflows that improve efficiency and productivity, more secure, more reliable office information infrastructure, and fewer barriers to access and maintenance. Legal-specific software is definitely the way to go if you’re a lawyer looking for a cloud-based program.

Those are just five of the many reasons why lawyers are moving toward the cloud. Specifically with the program Clio.
